Manchester Green Trail Day 2

Queens Park to Chorlton

Distance: 15 miles

Overcast. Mild but windy.

Lots of cherry blossoms and the first chiffchaff of the year.

We started in Queens Park, followed the River Irk to Cotton Fields and the New Islington marinas to the River Medlock. At the back of Ancoats, and a lot of road crossings, we visited the new Mayfield Park - where there are facilities but the soap to water to hot air ratio proved unfortunate.

We walked passed Elizabeth Gaskell's house and Whitworth gallery gardens and the Toaster building into Platts Field Park, complete with Shakespearean sunken garden, boating lake and the Nico Ditch ancient earthwork.

Leaving the park we walked through Moss Side Park and Alexandra Park before catching the tram in Chorlton.
